Is it time to rethink your child custody plan?

Families throughout California are now preparing for the onset of summer. While kids may be excited to have some time outside of school, parents may be worrying about how they will keep their children occupied for the warm months of the year. For parents who share custody of their children with former partners and spouses, the summer season can present unique challenges to their existing custody and visitation arrangements.

For example, during the school year, a child’s schedule may be fairly predictable as it is likely based on the calendars of their school and extracurricular activities. However, during the summer, their commitments become more variable and it may be a challenge for parents and kids to connect based on the arrangements they had previously created in their custody plans. Maintaining strong parent-child relationships is important for ensuring the best interests of the children in custody situations; when new schedules and conflicts arise, it is often beneficial for parents to establish child custody modifications to meet their families’ needs.

The law firm of Butler, Thiessen & Metzinger, Inc. & Associates works with parents who need help reworking their established child custody plans. New or changing commitments in the lives of children is only one reason that a child custody plan may need to be modified; parents, too, may experience unexpected changes in their own schedules that make maintaining their custody and visitation plans unworkable.

A child custody modification can help a family achieve the balance it needs to provide children with parental support all while allowing them to enjoy the vacations, activities, and other commitments they have scheduled into their lives. Summer is a great time to begin considering if a modification is necessary to maintain a workable child custody plan. The attorneys of Butler, Thiessen & Metzinger, Inc. & Associates are available to help new and existing clients begin assessing their child custody and visitation needs.
